HARTBEESPOORT - Business owners around Hartbeespoort Dam have lambasted the Human Rights Commission, accusing it of downplaying their complaints.
The commission's report found evidence of racial and gender discrimination regarding land leases in the area.
The report falls short of recommending a way forward.
A Hartbeespoort business owner Hartley Ngoato said, "It increased the tension simply because the report does not talk about the illegal occupation of land by whites, and whether they should vacate and give way for black applicants who have been denied for many years."
"The report wants to justify the illegality and make it legal and acceptable. It doesn't talk about when they should leave. They met with us once and didn't give us a right of response. They diluted our complaint," he said.
