CAPE TOWN - KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has blamed shortcomings in the prison system for why some crime continues unabated.
Mkhwanazi was part of proceedings as Parliament's hearings on gang-related violence started.
The National Assembly had given the Police Portfolio Committee a mandate to conduct sessions to gather first-hand accounts from affected communities.

Those affected spoke about their pain and suffering.
Stakeholders will continue their oversight visits in the Western Cape.
