Carrim to spend another weekend behind bars

MUSINA - The vehicle smuggling case against controversial businessman Suliman Carrim has been postponed to 30 October for a formal bail application.

Carrim made a brief appearance at the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

His lawyer argued that the bail application should proceed, saying Carrim has a constitutional right to apply for bail at his first court appearance.

But the court cited a congested roll and a lack of capacity as reasons for the delay.

Prosecutors are expected to add him as an accused in two cases involving vehicles allegedly taken across the Beitbridge border using fraudulent documentation.

Carrim is already facing charges under the Commissions Act for repeatedly failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission.
