Cash-in-transit heists surge to 249, 30% increase year-on-year

JOHANNESBURG - Almost 250 cash-in-transit robberies have taken place this year alone.

That's a 30 percent increase from the same period last year.

The Cash-In Transit Association of SA is worried about this countrywide phenomenon.

There's been several robberies this month alone.

This weekend, the N12 in Joburg was closed off following a CIT robbery when a cash van went up in flames.

Crime experts say we have yet to reach the busiest months heists season.

Some of the suspects are appearing in court today.
