'Cat' Matlala and co-accused plead not guilty

JOHANNESBURG - Whispers of contract killings and political ties translate into legal reality as the trial of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his co-accused gets underway.

The group pleads not guilty to 25 charges that include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering and fraud.

Matlala is accused of ordering hits on his ex-girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and DJ Vettys between 2022 and 2024.

The proceedings resume on Tuesday with the state calling its first witness.

The trial duration is 30 days.
