JOHANNESBURG - Alleged hitman Musa Kekana claims he was unlawfully removed from Edenvale Hospital and placed in a holding cell before completing his medical treatment.
According to Kekana, a former Bramley Police Station commander improperly pressured hospital staff into authorising an early discharge.
A trial within a trial is currently under way in the attempted murder case against alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi Cat Matlala and his co-accused.
The defence contends Kekana was suffocated and assaulted while in police custody and the evidence obtained during his arrest cannot be admitted into the main trial.
In his evidence-in-chief, Sergeant Malikutu Raseala testified that he was on duty on the day Kekana was discharged.
He transported Kekana from the Edenvale Hospital to the Bramley Police Station.
Raseala rejected Kekana’s claims of interference, telling the court that his former station commander played no role in the decision or the process of returning Kekana to police custody.
Following Raseala's testimony, the state requested an adjournment to finalise arrangements for their next witnesses.
The trial within a trial will resume on Monday.
