JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department is launching a cataract surgery marathon to restore sight for over 150 patients.
The drive aims to clear surgical backlogs, with most procedures at Pholosong Hospital and additional surgeries at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Johannesburg.
Pholosong Hospital acting CEO Dr Madidimalo Tsumele said this was a response to waiting times.
"So previously the waiting time was quite long, but we have reduced this waiting time to just under six weeks. Our patients are currently waiting just 6 weeks for operations and we are striving to reduce that even further, to say patients should not wait long," Tsumele said.
