DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal taxi boss Thomas Getsemane has used the courts to halt his arrest.
He is sought for fraud and extortion. Besides his massive fleet of vehicles, Getsemane has various other business interests.
According to police spokesperson Amanda Funani, he tried to take over a mining operation under false pretenses in 2023.
"He produced fraudulent documents claiming ownership of a quarry that belonged to a businessman in Inanda," she said.
At the time of doing so, he and several others were arrested.
The matter was not enrolled as he launched a R100 million unlawful arrest lawsuit against the police.

Last week, the police searched for him, his daughters and two others with fresh warrants of arrest.
"He promised police he would hand himself over on Monday," said Funani.
On the agreed Monday, Getsemane's lawyers served the police with a court interdict.
Funani said the police are challenging the interdict on 19 August.
"We believe we have a strong case against him," she said. Getsemane's lawyers argue that the interdict must stop his arrest on the following factors:
· Arrest warrants may have been obtained improperly
· Police’s intention to deprive applicants of their liberty
· Only way to protect their rights immediately
He remains free, for now; however, the police have said they won't be backing down from their investigation.
