Higher Education Minister, Buti Manamela assured students that arrangements are being made to provide adequate housing.
Earlier during his address Ramaphosa emphasised the need to absorb the increasing number of young people passing matric and entering institutions of higher learning.
He said had directed the Ministers of Finance and Higher Education to work on a proposal to build more universities and TVET colleges with specialised areas of focus.
The president also noted with concern the great shortage of student accommodation at institutions of higher learning.
He said efforts to address the issues are underway with the Department of Higher Education working with financial institutions to implement innovative ways in which government can provide student accommodation.
