Cholera outbreak | There should be strong cooperation between govt: Ramaphosa

TSHWANE - The awarding of tenders to the wrong people is one of the reasons wastewater treatment plants in Hammanskraal are failing.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says all levels of government should come together and work in unison to prevent future disasters like the one in Hammanskraal.

29 people have lost their lives due to a cholera outbreak in the area.

Ramaphosa said, "There should be good cooperation between all levels of government. One level of government must not pull in its own direction because now we can see when they do not work together it leads to the disaster that has unfolded here in Hammanskraal."

"The other problem of course, yes the municipality did try within its own capabilities to find people who will go repair and extend the waterworks, they issued big tenders and the work was half-done, up to 68-percent and the tender had to be cancelled because there were irregularities in the awarding."
