JOHANNESBURG - City Power has warned residents not to pay any individual claiming to be a technician or contractor in exchange for restoring power supply.
This also applies to those claiming to be attending to outages or reconnecting power supply illegally.
This comes as the power entity has noted complaints of individuals allegedly soliciting money from customers during outages or while carrying out work on the electricity network.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said this is a serious matter and must be reported.
"No City Power employee, contractor, or representative is authorised to request or accept cash payments directly from customers for attending to outages, restoring electricity supply, reconnecting electricity, replacing transformers, service cables, or carrying out any form of work on the network," he said.
Mangena warned its employees and service providers that any involvement in such activities would result in severe disciplinary and criminal consequences.
