City of Tshwane mayorless again
JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane has no mayor again.
Cope's Murunwa Makwarela has been disqualified as a councillor.
Makwarela was declared insolvent in 2016.
According to the Constitution, a person who's been declared an unrehabilitated insolvent is not eligible to hold office as a councillor.
City manager Johann Mettler has written to the Gauteng Independent Electoral Commission, informing it of the mayoral vacancy.
Makwarela was elected mayor last month with the help of the ANC and the EFF.
