Coalition decisions will be crucial - Mnguni

JOHANNESBURG - The race is on for political parties to garner votes ahead of the November local government elections.

But the reality is many municipalities may end up with coalition governments.

Rise Mzansi said fixing Johannesburg starts with principled leadership, transparent coalition agreements and no deals with parties tainted by criminality.

City of Johannesburg mayoral candidate Lukhona Mnguni said they work based on principles and coalition agreements ought to be signed.

“I do think that people are exceedingly disappointed in how the ANC is governing this city.

The ANC will probably have a huge task to justify why it must be included in a coalition. But those are conversations that become more material when you see the actual results.

“But I think starting with principles, quality of leadership, coalition agreements, and ensuring that residents have a much more transparent path to coalition formation than we have had previously,” Mnguni said.
