Community demands release of seven suspected vigilantes

KRAAIFONTEIN - Dr Llewellyn MacMaster of the Cape Crime Crisis Coalition is cautioning against taking the law into one's own hands.

MacMaster says it might lead to short-term gratification and a more violent society.

Seven people from Kraaifontein in the Western Cape will appear in court on Friday to face murder charges after three alleged criminals were slain in a vigilante incident on Monday.

Since the arrests, residents have been demonstrating and demanding their release, claiming they are innocent.
