Edward Khomotso Madiba
PRETORIA - Edward Khomotso Madiba has been rearrested.
Madiba escaped from Rooigrond Correctional Facility in the North West, where he was serving a 20-year sentence.
He was rearrested at a flat in the North West mining town of Brits.
Correctional Services National Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale confirmed that the fugitive was nabbed 72 hours after his escape, and he suspects Madiba may have received help from within the department.
While Thobakgale is concerned about the regular discovery of contraband in prison cells, he insisted they're winning the fight against corruption in the department.
Thobakgale promised a speedy investigation into eight suspended officials, saying its crucial to the department's plans of improving their security systems.
