Crime in SA | City Parks accused of neglect

Johannesburg City Parks is being accused of neglecting the Braamfontein cemetery.

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg City Parks is being accused of neglecting the Braamfontein cemetery.

The ash walls have been vandalised, urns broken, ashes scattered and plaques ripped from the walls.

The Friends of Johannesburg Cemeteries has written to City Parks, but nothing has been done.

Sarah Welham from the organisation said a lot of the ashes have been left in the walls.

"It could be just the act of vandalism or it could be people who believe your ashes get buried with sentimental valuable items and maybe they're looking for those," she said.
