EAST LONDON - The Pakistani business community in the Buffalo City Metro says that nearly 200 foreign nationals from Pakistan and India have been kidnapped in the Eastern Cape since 2022.
The actual number is likely much higher when factoring in cases involving Ethiopian, Somali, and Bangladeshi business owners.
These developments come after three foreign nationals appeared in court in East London, suspected of involvement in the recent kidnapping of a nine-year-old girl.
Recent ransom payouts for kidnapped victims are believed to be around R500,000 each.
However, the ransom demand for 72-year-old Naeem Sarwar, who was kidnapped three weeks ago in Graaff-Reinet, is reportedly around R4-million.
