Crumbling roads spark frustration in Mohlakeng and Randfontein

RANDFONTEIN - Potholes are driving residents of Mohlakeng and Randfontein to frustration.

The situation has gotten so bad that they are trying to patch the holes up themselves.

But without the proper material and equipment, it's a quick fix that reappears days later.

The Rand West City Municipality is simply too broke to make the repairs.

The municipality is struggling with massive debt, making it tough to deliver services.

The 2016 merger of Westonaria and Randfontein has not yielded the expected improvements.

Instead, it's created a larger, more complex, and fiscally constrained administrative burden.

The municipality declined to comment on camera, saying political parties are using potholes as an election ploy.
