CAPE TOWN - The race for Cape Town’s mayoral seat is heating up ahead of next month's polls.
ANC representative Jerimia Thuynsma claims the party managed the metro better than the DA when it last governed Cape Town before 2006.
The parties were facing off in eNCA's We The Nation election debate.
Thuynsma said, "The ANC governed the city for three years, and our delivery record in the three years is clearly much better than the DA. That's why you will be able to see that we delivered more houses...
"We were in the process, as I indicated the last time, of getting people who are living in rental stock of the ANC to transfer the houses to them so that they can have ownership and have property that they can basically use. That of course got stopped when the DA came into power in 2006."
Geordin Hill-Lewis blasted the ANC, saying the only example of success that the ANC government can point to is more than 20 years ago.
"There is not one out of South Africa's 260 municipalities, not one that he can point to as a success story. And think that tells us all, tells the voters all they need to be aware of and wary of in this election."
