JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng ANC has responded to the Democratic Alliance’s water mafia billboard, calling it opportunistic.
Chairperson Panyaza Lesufi has challenged the DA’s role in appointing the contractors in question.
''They're being opportunistic. I mean, the water tankers of Tshwane, the current contract for water tankers- who appointed them? It's the DA. I mean, they were running that city. Actually, now, if you go to Tshwane, we have changed that.
“We have water tankers that are owned by the municipality, no longer owned by individuals, including in Ekurhuleni and in Johannesburg. We're moving towards that thing. It is just an opportunistic stance and the DA now has run out of ideas.
“They've started to be smooth talkers. They've said everything that they think is correct when they themselves have created this problem. They were running Ekurhuleni when Cat Matlala came. We didn't stoop low and make the noise that they are making.
Lesufi said the DA was running Tshwane when “people in Hammanskraal were dying of cholera”.
“Did we put up a billboard? We didn't. They were running Johannesburg when they failed to ensure that all these particular matters are attended to. So, their latest billboard is nothing else. It stands because they've run out of ideas. They've been smooth talkers. They know now that no one believes them because all the things they are saying they are going to do, they have failed to do them.''
