Ousted Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse has set her sights on becoming the next federal leader of the Democratic Alliance.

She is standing for this position against John Steenhuisen and the little-known Lungile Phenyane.

In fact, Phenyane is contesting all six leadership and deputy positions, including standing against DA veteran and firebrand, Helen Zille, to become Federal Council Chairperson.

The DA says this will be its biggest congress so far, with about 2,000 delegates expected to attend.
