JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has opened a criminal case against former Ekurhuleni city manager, Imogen Mashazi.
It follows reports linking her to a R3.5-million London trip she took in 2022.

DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Khatutshelo Rasilingwane, alleged that companies that benefited from tenders with the city of Ekurhuleni paid for the trip.
"In the year July 2022, Mashazi accepted a chartered flight to London worth of millions of rands. She did not, as a city manager, declare this trip. From the allegation contained in this week's paper, it is now clear why this trip was not declared."
Rasilingwane raised concerns that the company involved in this matter, citing that the company had won tenders from the city of Ekurhuleni to work on vital infrastructure related to electoral bill payments and is therefore involved within the city billing system.
The city mayoral candidate said they have reasons to believe that they should be concerned that the former city manager allegedly went against the law.
"The former city manager has violated not just the supply chain management policies of the city, but also key parts of the Municipality Systems Act, the MFMA (Municipal Finance Management Act, and the Prohibition and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act," Rasilingwane said.
