Decades later, families still seek justice in Cradock 4 case

GQEBERHA - Events that transpired over 40 years ago have begun to fade in the minds of many.

The people of interest in the Cradock 4 inquest are living proof of this.

Many of them were part of apartheid-era destruction, but they have either forgotten what they did or continue to distance themselves from the murders.

The culprits escaped justice, but families of the anti-apartheid activists still want answers about what happened to their loved ones.

Those asked to testify at the Cradock 4 Inquest are frail former police bosses who deny any wrongdoing.

So far, no one seems to want to take any responsibility for the killings.

This is the third inquest attempting to incriminate the perpetrators who killed the activists, who were seen as a threat to the apartheid government.

The first two probes took place before democratic South Africa, with families saying they had high hopes of getting justice under the new government.

The Cradock 4 Inquest continues on Thursday.
