JOHANNESBURG - The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, has issued a policy direction on equity requirements in the ICT sector.

Minister Solly Malatsi is calling on Icasa, to urgently consider aligning its regulations with the national ICT Sector Code.
The chairperson of Parliament's Communication Committee, Khusela Sangoni-Diko, wants Malatsi to withdraw his directive.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele said he also opposes the directive.
Gungubele said, "The form, which the minister in my view is breaching, is our country after the multinationals have left our country: we must find ourselves on a self-determined technological path."
