Diarrhoea cases in CT not an outbreak – Gift of the Givers

CAPE TOWN - Gift of the Givers said diarrhoea cases reported at the Epping Repatriation Centre in Cape Town do not constitute an outbreak.

Emergency Medical Service teams have been monitoring the situation,
and have urged the public not to panic.

The centre has been closed after processing migrants wishing to leave South Africa.

Gift of the Givers’ Dr Naeem Kathrada said authorities were monitoring the situation.

“There have been normal cases of diarrhoea. I wouldn't consider it an outbreak, considering that we had over 3,000 people who were in the area and at the facility.

“There were about 10 to 14 cases. Mild diarrhoea in one or two cases had to be admitted to the local hospitals. But the province with the EMS had two paramedics at all times, 24 hours, based here. From speaking to them, there wasn't an immediate worry or concern."
