Diesel price shock softened after error but pain at the pump remains

JOHANNESBURG - A government whoopsie brings some good news for Diesel drivers.

But the fuel will still reach record high prices from midnight.

On Monday, the Central Energy Fund said that Diesel will increase by R6.19 per litre.

But that figure has been revised down to R5.27.

The calculations used to get to Monday's figure did not include the extra fuel levy relief that government announced for Diesel motorists earlier.

Petrol increases by R3.27.

95 unleaded petrol in Gauteng will cost R26.63 from Wednesday, close to the record high recorded in 2022.

Diesel prices are unregulated but will officially rise above R31 per litre – a new record.
