LONDON - The government says it's created over 2 million jobs and livelihood support opportunities for unemployed South Africans since October 2020.
This was done through the presidential employment stimulus.
A social policy specialist, Zak Essa, argues that these programmes alongside social employment funds are important.
Essa says the work created through the social development fund is important for unemployed people because it reassures them of their importance in the country and the value of their contributions within their community giving people hope.
At the same time, he said the work done in the social employment fund makes South Africa a better place to live in
He argues that public employment should be seen as an investment, not a cost.
