Driver behind M41 multi-car pile-up in police custody

A driver responsible for Monday's multi-vehicle pile-up in Umhlanga just outside Durban is in police custody.

DURBAN - The driver of the tipper truck that ploughed through 49 cars on the M41 in Durban on Monday has handed himself over to police.

The 23-year-old initially fled the scene of the massive crash.

Now, he’s being questioned as investigations continue into how events unfolded.

At least 49 cars were damaged after the tipper truck crashed into unsuspecting motorists, leaving numerous people injured.

Police say they’re hard at work to find out whether Monday’s crash was due to problems with the truck.

The truck driver will appear in court soon.
