Drug trafficker turned gym instructor arrested in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN - A SAPS National Intervention unit has arrested a convicted drug trafficker, on Interpol's wanted list.

A 41-year, Bulgarian national was handed a 16-year sentence in Romania in 2009. 

He became a fugitive shortly after being sentenced.

Stanislav Stamenov was known to be part of a larger criminal syndicate, involved in trafficking heroin into Romania. 

Police believe he's been hiding in plain sight working as a gym instructor in Cape Town.

Interpol had placed him on their red notice list. 

He's expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
