JOHANNESBURG - Good news for Joburg residents as bulk water supplier Rand Water completed the third phase of its maintenance ahead of schedule.
The utility beat the clock and finished maintenance on the Eikenhof system.
Despite the good news, some affected residents were not impressed by the disruption.
Residents in Meadowlands, Dobsonville, and other parts of Soweto that had experienced low to no water have had their water restored.
As the system recovered, Mofolo residents were still bearing the brunt of the maintenance.
Some of them are using equipment offered by a Good Samaritan to fill up their buckets.
Despite multiple notices about the upcoming maintenance and its potential impact, some residents were still caught off guard.
Others question if things can’t be done differently.
As residents bemoan the inconvenience, one expert points out that the reservoirs were meant to be the backup that could have prevented the disruption.
Rand Water expects areas supplied by reservoirs to take between three and five days to recover.
