JOHANNESBURG - Amnesty International also called on protesting students to be peaceful.

Protests this week turned violent, resulting in some suspensions.

On Friday, the university barred the media from covering the protests, saying it will inflame the situation.

Students are angry at financial exclusions and lack of accommodation.

The university is expected to meet with students on Saturday.

Amnesty International's Mienke Steytler said, "we really hope that all parties coming to this meeting come with an open mind and listening to each others concerns and view points. We’re hoping for a peaceful meeting."

"We know in the past people have died. We’re calling on the university, the higher education and protesters that there would no further injuries and no deaths this time around.”
