Education in crisis | Plans to eradicate pit toilets by 2024

Civil rights organisations have slammed government for failing to eradicate pit toilets at schools. The Education Department says they'll be gone by the end of 2024.

PRETORIA - There are currently 911 schools that still use pit toilets.

KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Limpopo remain the provinces where pupils are most subjected to inappropriate sanitation.

The Basic Education Department says that by the end of 2024, all such toilets will be eradicated.

The department gave a briefing on Sunday on not only sanitation, but other challenges at schools.
