EFF's Mofokeng wants Joburg governance overhaul

JOHANNESBURG - Infrastructure and service delivery are among the key issues facing the City of Johannesburg.

EFF mayoral candidate Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng said the city needs to rethink how it's governed.

The party also wants a bigger share of national grant funding.

The EFF is holding a rally in Soweto ahead of Wednesday's polls.

"There's a historical lag in maintaining what we already had, but there's a lack of forecasting and resource mobilization for the kind of Johannesburg that needs to emerge. Through the EFF and our leadership, we are saying we can do a few things.

"We can re-pivot, re-organize the city's council and governance, but we can also do the necessary advocacy required in parliament with national treasury to increase Joburg's budget from 10% to 15% of the grant to allow us to have climate resiliency, for example, in our housing plans for a future that's also sustainable."
