Ekurhuleni Council deems Lerutla court case 'personal matter'

BOKSBURG - The matter regarding to Municipal Manager Kagiso Lerutla appeared before Ekurhuleni Metro's Council.

Municipality spokesperson, Phakamile Mbengashe says while Council deliberated on the matter, it came to the conclusion that it was a personal matter.

Despite this, however, they would monitor the court proceedings.

Lerutla was arrested with suspended EMPD Chief Julius Mkhwanazi. He is accused of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Lerutla and Mkhwanazi have been appearing at the Boksburg Regional Court and are currently on R30,000 bail each.

They are accused of paying a third party about R400,000 to impersonate Lerutla in court. 

He was due to appear on a speeding charge in 2019, but allegedly missed the court appearance to attend a job interview.
