CALEDON - Law enforcement officials have re-arrested escaped inmate Jakob September.
September escaped from the Helderstroom Correctional Facility in Caledon on Saturday and he was nabbed in the Overberg hours later.
September, who is 44, is serving a life sentence for rape and murder and fled while performing work duties at the prison’s dairy grazing area around 11am.
A coordinated operation involving the DCS Emergency Support Team, police, and local security officials led to his capture at around 9pm.
Authorities have thanked community members and local agricultural networks for their assistance and say an internal investigation will determine how the escape occurred.
