Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter resigns

With no end in sight for Stage 5 rolling blackouts, Eskom’s group chief executive Andre de Ruyter has resigned after a tumultuous three years in office. What does this mean for the struggling power utility? Energy expert Chris Yelland has more. #DStv403

JOHANNESBURG - Andre de Ruyter has resigned as Eskom CEO.

He was appointed in December 2019 and has had a tumultuous time in office since.

2022 has seen more power cuts than any year since rolling blackouts started back in 2007.

We're currently on Stage 5 blackouts, with no sign of a reprieve on the horizon.

Just last week, De Ruyter faced public criticism from both Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe as well as from Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
