Eskom to implement Stage 4 power cuts

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says it will implement Stage 4 power cuts from 9am until further notice.

It blames breakdowns at several generation units for the increased power cuts.

Due to further breakdowns and delayed returns of generating units to service, Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 09:00 until further notice. Eskom will publish a full statement in due course.

The utility says it's forced to strictly conserve fuel reserves for its diesel-fired gas turbines given budget restrictions.

The turbines are usually used for emergency power generation to avoid power cuts.

Eskom is asking people to be patient and tolerant during these dark times.
