Eskom implements load-limiting pilot

JOHANNESBURG - If you own a smart meter and live in Fourways in Johannesburg, you're in for something called load-limiting.

Eskom began piloting this project on Friday.

What load-limiting essentially means, is that during Stage 1 to 4 customers' electricity capacity will be reduced.

Much like an inverter can only charge a few things, during load-limiting only a few things will stay on.

But fret not, Eskom promises to send you a message an hour before they start to throttle your power.

If you don't reduce power, customers face being left in the dark for the duration of the load-limiting period.

The aim of this game is that the utility is trying to better balance the supply and demand of power on the grid.
