Eskom responds to idle vehicles in Buffalo City

EAST LONDON - Eskom in the Eastern Cape is facing backlash for hiking tariffs while service delivery in Buffalo City stalls.

Residents say the problem is worsened by a fleet of idle Eskom vehicles, which remain parked even as repair requests pile up.

However, Eskom Eastern Cape spokesperson Zama Mpondwana has dismissed the claims, saying the vehicles in question are not idle.

“One batch has been fitted and dispatched to various Eskom sites in the province to make sure that we accelerate service delivery. So it is not true that we have a range of fleets sitting there,” he says.

Mpondwana did, however, reveal that some vehicles are old or damaged and are awaiting repairs or replacement.

“Some of these vehicles are old, dangerous, and risky, but we have decided to auction them.”

He says maintenance work is continuing.
