eThekwini voters could deal ANC another massive blow

DURBAN - The ANC's gradual decline in eThekwini is expected to be another party's gain next week.

Campaigning politicians have had no shortage of service-delivery issues to leverage for votes.

The eThekwini Municipality was established 26 years ago, intended to signal a new era in Durban.

Residents heard all the right words – more housing, better basic services, improved public infrastructure.

After enjoying an outright majority for 21 years, the ANC had to eat humble pie after the previous local government elections.

Support dropped significantly, and the MK Party emerged as a serious contender for the metro.

Now, polling suggests the party and the ANC’s long-standing opposition in eThekwini, the DA, will go head-to-head next week.

Residents will once again decide who they believe can restore the quality of KwaZulu-Natal’s only metro.
