Family blames Soweto woman's murder on police

A Soweto family is angry at police for ignoring their daughter's call for help days before her death, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.

SOWETO - A Soweto family is blaming police for their daughter's death.

The 29-year-old was killed, allegedly by her boyfriend just days after trying to open a case.

Phumzile Lekoane went to the Meadowlands police station last Sunday but was turned away.

Officers instead gave a verbal warning to her boyfriend.  

She was found strangled to death on Wednesday.

Gauteng provincial police say an internal investigation is now underway, and steps will be taken against the officers.
