It's believed a turf war erupted between rival gangs outside the house in Wesbank.
eNCA reporter Nobesuthu Hejana spoke with Davin's mother, Undean Koopman who says she feels like her heart has been ripped from her body.
Davin Afrika, her 4-year-old son, was killed by two stray bullets on Friday evening.
He would have turned 5 this week.

According to the family, two armed men entered this yard and opened fire on their neighbour during a drug-related turf battle.
Koopman said, “The time I grabbed Davin two shots still passed me."
"So, I ducked on the bed and so, I grabbed my son. The time I lifted my son and I fell on the ground I saw blood. I told the Daddy that Davin, Davin had been shot."
"We all went down the floor again. I said Davin look at me, come we sing that song we used to sing, "Lord cover me with your blood" and so he made a sound and looked at his daddy and made a sound and so I went out I didn’t mind if the gunmen was outside.”
Koopman says she’s forgiven those who murdered her daughter in 2023 and will do the same for Devin's murderers.
Residents in Wesbank say they are under siege.
