Fancy walking into you, Mr President: How easy is it to meet President Ramaphosa

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is going to write a book about his encounters with South Africans.

An avid walker, he has had many interesting encounters. During some encounters, he has met with people he hears about and who are allegedly linked or related to him.

During one encounter in 2023, he met businessman Hangwani Maumela.

"I asked him for his name, as I do with everyone that I meet," he told members of the Council of Provinces on Tuesday.

When Maumela introduced himself, Ramaphosa was surprised to meet the man who 'brought his name into disrepute.'

He met Maumela once again in 2024 as he frequently walks past his house, which is located not far from Ramaphosa's home.

The President goes on daily walks at 6 am for 10km in Hyde Park in Johannesburg and Cape Town. He says that he is available to every citizen who stops him and asks for a picture, video or a chat.

However, one should not use those moments to claim proximity to him.
