Festive season safety plan | KZN SAPS: We are in a real war

DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal government launched its festive season safety campaign on Tuesday.

It comes amid rising crime rates and infrastructure challenges that affect service delivery.

KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says they are at war with criminals, and they won't back down.

He said they've had several run-ins with violent criminals in recent times. 

"The criminals that we have are very violent, they don’t negotiate.

"So when it's time to fight, they fight," Mkhwanazi said.

"We are constantly in a battle in the province."

Mkhwanazi said they have noticed that young people are getting involved in criminal activity.

"Parents have really lost control over their kids," he said.

Other govt departments that's supposed to play the part have completely lost control over them."
