FlySafair halts flights to Hoedspruit Airport amid floods

HOEDSPRUIT - Severe flooding in parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga has forced Flysafair to halt all flights to the Hoedspruit Airport.

FlySafair says it will suspend all services to and from Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport until 14 February.

The airline cites safety concerns after weeks of heavy rain and damage from flooding.

"Heavy rains have resulted in significant runway damage and rendered the airport’s radar system non-operational, making it unsafe for flights to depart or land at present," it said in a statement.

Other carriers, including CemAir and Airlink initially cancelled flights as bad weather made access dangerous, though some have since resumed operations.

The disruptions are impacting travel to communities and lodges around the Kruger National Park, where roads and bridges remain under repair.
