Free State province to go over budget

The Free State province had initially allocated R8.7-billion of conditional grants to, among other things, implement infrastructure projects such as roads.

BLOEMFONTEIN - Some infrastructure projects in the Free State have ground to a halt because of legal action against contractors.

To add salt to the wound, the provincial government projects a budget overspending by March next year.

But none of it is related to service delivery.

The Free State province had initially allocated R8.7-billion of conditional grants to, among other things, implement infrastructure projects such as roads.

But the province has so far spent less than half of these grants and runs the risk of forfeiting the unspent funds to the National Treasury.
