Gauteng crime wardens | DA leader dragged over controversial comments

JOHANNESBURG - DA leader John Steenhuisen is being criticised for controversial comments denouncing Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens.

He was in Soshanguve on Sunday as the blue party staged a picket outside a police station over crime rates.

Steenhuisen said the wardens were drunkards who came from shebeens.

The idea was the brainchild of Premier of Panyaza Lesufi.

They were introduced to last year and received 'peace officer' status in December.
