Gauteng Education Dept probes bullying allegations in wake of child suicide

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department says it’s launching an investigation into the suicide of a 12-year-old pupil at Khehlekile Primary School in Thokoza.

The family of Sibusiso Mbatha are devastated. The say his death was caused by bullying.

Mbatha took his own life on Monday, allegedly because a teacher at the school told him to leave his "gayism" outside the school's premises.

The family say it wasn't the first time the educator had made derogatory comments aimed at their child.

eNCA reporter Hloni Mtimkulu spoke to the family.
