Gauteng, Mpumalanga municipalities owe Rand Water R3bn

JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water is concerned about escalating municipal debt due to non-payment from municipalities.

The utility is owed R3-billion, with Gauteng leading with a debt of R2-billion followed by Mpumalanga municipalities with R1-billion.

The water utility says that these actions cause serious financial instability and immediate action is needed to prevent this situation from getting worse.

It is urging defaulting municipal customers to treat this matter with the utmost urgency.
