CARLETONVILLE - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the province is not gangster's paradise.
He was speaking in Carletonville following a mass shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people at a tavern.
Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Kekana said they were hot on the heels of the alleged perpetrators.
Lesufi pointed to the police's lead said it is proof that police investigative capacity is improving.
Lesufi said the swift progress in the case shows that law enforcement is increasingly able to trace suspects.
"I'm quite excited in some of the breakthroughs that the police have made thus far.
Including some of the incidents that have happened recently, they will be in a position to brief you.
"It means that the capacity is starting to kick in, to be in a position to trace, to be in a position to detect and to be in a position to take the evidence that is necessary to know who's behind this.
"I mean, in this scene, it's hardly 24 hours. If you can check the way they briefed us, the nature and the level of the evidence they've already gathered here in terms of what happened here and the personnel behind it.
